Student mobility

Student Mobility

Student mobility is one of the key components of the “Erdkinder Montessori & Farm School” project, implemented under the Erasmus+ KA220 program. Its goal is to offer young people aged 12–18 years the opportunity to experience Montessori Erdkinder education in an international, real-life learning and working environment. During the two-year duration of the project, students from Poland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Norway, Latvia, and Slovakia will participate in five-day visits to partner schools, where they will learn through meaningful work, collaborate with peers from different countries, and explore various approaches to practical education within the Montessori environment.

The main location for the mobility activities will be the Montessori Farm School in Białka, where students will immerse themselves in the daily rhythm of the Erdkinder community. Their program will include morning responsibilities, work in the garden, carpentry or kitchen activities, and animal care, as well as time for personal reflection and end-of-day discussions. This experience allows adolescents to experience one of the core principles of Montessori education – learning based on real responsibility, independence, and meaningful contribution to the community.

Educational programs developed within the project – beekeeping, carpentry, gardening, and kitchen work – will form the foundation of practical activities carried out during mobilities. Mobility activities will also take place at partner schools abroad, allowing students to see how different countries implement Montessori practical work within their local contexts.

These visits have not only an educational, but also a cultural dimension. Students have the opportunity to observe everyday school life, traditions, and different ways communities support adolescent development. Through mobility, young people develop key competencies that Maria Montessori considered essential during adolescence – independence, ability to act, teamwork, responsibility for the community, social awareness, and ecological sensitivity. At the same time, they learn to function in an international environment, strengthening their European identity and openness to diversity.

Each mobility will conclude with a student presentation summarizing the acquired experiences. These presentations, prepared in English, will be published on the project website as documentation and inspiration for other Montessori schools in Europe.

Student mobility embodies the core idea of the project – education that connects theory with practice, school with real life, and young people with the world around them. Through these experiences, the project “Erdkinder Montessori & Farm School” becomes a space for authentic learning through action, collaboration, and responsibility.
